Mitchellville, IA – Two Hospitalized After Fiery Head-On Crash on I-80

Mitchellville, IA (October 10, 2025) – A serious head-on collision involving a semi-truck and an SUV shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Mitchellville for several hours on October 8.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:38 p.m. near the 149-mile marker. A Kia Sorento, driven by 66-year-old Leslie Ambrosino of West Des Moines, was traveling westbound when it crossed the median at a crossover, struck a cable barrier, and entered the eastbound lanes. The vehicle then collided head-on with a semi-truck driven by 27-year-old Kikoile Siogue of Illinois.

Following the impact, both vehicles veered off the road and caught fire. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, extinguished the flames, and provided medical care to both drivers. Ambrosino and Siogue were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been released.

The eastbound lanes of I-80 remained closed for several hours as authorities cleared the wreckage and conducted an initial investigation.

The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash and is examining whether weather, fatigue, or road conditions may have played a role.

Our thoughts are with both drivers, and we wish them full and swift recoveries.
