Lake Station, IN – Truck Driver Killed in Fiery Crash on I-80/94 Near I-65 Intchg

Lake Station, IN (October 14, 2025) – A tragic crash on Monday afternoon, October 13, claimed the life of a truck driver after a gravel truck struck a median wall and burst into flames on Interstate 80/94 in Lake Station.
According to the Indiana State Police, the accident happened around 4 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near the 13-mile marker, just east of the I-65 interchange. Investigators said the truck was travelling eastbound in the right lane when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered left and collided with the median wall and an overhead signpost.
The impact caused the trailer to overturn, spilling gravel across all westbound lanes of the interstate. The truck then became fully engulfed in flames, trapping the driver inside the cab. Responding firefighters from the Lake Station Fire Department extinguished the fire and discovered the driver deceased inside the vehicle.
The Indiana Department of Emergency Management also responded due to burning oil that drained into the highway’s sewer system. As of 7 p.m., both directions of I-80/94 remained partially restricted, with traffic passing slowly along the right shoulder.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office will release the driver’s identity once next-of-kin have been notified. The Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of this deadly crash.
