Elmwood Park, NJ – Wrong-Way Crash on I-80 Leaves One Dead, Others Injured

Elmwood Park, NJ (October 5, 2025) – A tragic collision on Interstate 80 claimed the life of a Passaic County man early Sunday morning, October 5. New Jersey State Police report that 29-year-old Steven P. Barrera-Fiallos of Prospect Park was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near milepost 61.3 around 5:30 a.m. when his vehicle struck an oncoming car head-on.
The impact caused his vehicle to spin and collide with a second westbound vehicle shortly afterwards. Barrera-Fiallos suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the two other vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities temporarily closed lanes while investigators documented the scene and removed the wreckage. Wrong-way crashes remain among the most devastating roadway incidents, often leaving families with unanswered questions.
