Butler Twp., PA – Injuries Result from Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-80 near I-81

Butler Township, PA (July 12, 2025) — A tractor-trailer overturned Friday morning on the I-80 eastbound ramp near the I-81 interchange in Luzerne County, resulting in injuries and causing significant traffic delays.
The rollover took place on July 11, near a major junction in Butler Township, where I-80 meets I-81—a heavily traveled area that saw major slowdowns as emergency crews rushed to the scene. Valley Regional Fire Department and additional local responders arrived quickly to provide aid and begin cleanup efforts.
At least one person was reported injured and received medical attention on-site. While authorities have not disclosed how many individuals were involved, the presence of confirmed injuries prompted swift action from paramedics. Responders also worked to mitigate any potential hazards, including the risk of spilled cargo or fluids from the overturned rig.
The wreckage and debris forced temporary lane closures and contributed to backups along the eastbound lanes as crews worked to right the vehicle and restore safe driving conditions.
An investigation is now underway to determine what caused the crash. Officials are examining several possible contributing factors, including vehicle speed, load balance, and roadway conditions at the time of the incident.
We send our best wishes for a full recovery to those injured in this serious crash and thank the first responders for their quick and coordinated efforts.
